Laila Ali, American Former Professional Boxer and daughter of Legendary Boxing Champion Muhammad Ali, discussed her new cooking book, Food for Life, to her Thurgood Marshall Academy Cinderellas of Harlem New York. The girls can’t wait to try some of the recipes that will teach them better eating habits within their community.
To help launch the new book initiative, “My Celebrity Book Club” in 2018, the following authors will support the literacy efforts for girls across the country.
Keke Palmer, Laila Ali, Emmy award winning anchor, Romona Robinson, Grace Byers from FOX EMPIRE, and Quvenzhane Wallis, who received an Oscar nomination at 9 years old, for her role as Hushpuppy in “Beasts of the Southern Wild” and an Golden Globe Award for her role in, “Annie”, alongside Academy Award Winner, Jamie Fox and amazing actresses, Cameron Diaz.
On Tuesday, January 23rd, over 50 Thurgood Marshall Cinderellas had the opportunity to meet the woman boxing legend, Laila Ali at the Barnes & Noble of Tribeca as the girls were treated to a brief history lesson of why Laila wrote her first cook book. Also all of the Cinderellas received their own photo op with Laila as well as surprising her with a special gift bag from their book club.
The Objective of The Saving Our Cinderellas’ “My Celebrity Book Club” book Initiative will be to promote self-esteem and awareness through book club readings with “Celebrity Godparent”, mentors within the Cinderella’s curriculum, to encourage at-risk elementary, middle and high school girl students who have interest within the arts to deter bullying, date abuse and domestic violence.
